I am looking for a subpanel of 40 to 55 amps with about eight circuits that can be flush mounted. Everything I see at Lowes and Home Depot seems to start at 100 amps or is made for surface mount. Any ideas?

Just buy that 100 amp unit and feed it with the ampacity of your choice, up to it's rated maximum.
Go to any electrical supply house and you will be able to find that small a panel.
load centers are sized 30, 60, 100 amps.
8 full sized spaces will be a 100 amp panel. Remember the extra ground bar your going to need. Thanks All: Looks like I will have to shop around a bit. Trying to save space (and money) by not oversizing the panel. Its going in a 200 square foot addition.
