Using wallmounted light fixture as plugin lamp, also wall mounted

Jul 11, 2004 1 Replies

If the fixture in question is properly grounded and a 3 conductor wire is used with a 3-pin plug and used as a wallmounted plugin lamp where is the danger ( with the wire running outside the wall just like a table lamp) ? Besides being wall mounted and high reduced any change of anyone touching it

Why does the code forbid this ? Does it explicitly do so ? Why and what is the logic behind it ? thanks Mike

Probably have to do with UL approval. plugin lamps are not UL approved for permanent installation.
