I have not yet dealt with one yet but I believe the pk3+ is the same chip as a pk3, but the keyway is the same as the newest Saturn blank. There are a few locksmith suppliers out there that are advertising to have these new blanks in stock.

ok, does the PK3 have a + marked on the key head??? they got one in, and thats the only difference... and its a BIG + thanks..

PK3+ is a megamos chip. It cannot be duplicated. You must program in 2 keys in order to get them registered to work. The Malibu is a + with an ION keyway.
thank you....
gonna have fun with the dealer...

Opened a 04 Malibu rental car the other day and it had a standard 10 cut lock in the door. Used our GM pick keys to open it. I know that the Malibu is supposed to have the same keyway as the Ion and Grand Prix, but this one did not. I had a new 04 Grand Prix several months ago and it had the new keyway.

this is getting interesting... like the 96 Ford... is it 10, or is it 8...
--Shiva--
Nope. It is not supposed to have the B106 keyway. The only thing that has changed is it now has a PK3+ transponder. (different chip than PK3) Also, you won't find the PK3+ key on all of the Malibu's. The "economy" model has just a regular key.
Take care,

I work in a GM Parts dept. and have been doing the key cutting and lock coding for the last 15 years or so. Here's what I've recently discovered about '04 Malibu keys.
In their infinite wisdom Chevrolet is selling two completely different
2004 Malibus. One is virtually identical to the '03 model and is designated by GM as an "N" body, as were the previous models. In 2004 this model is being offered only for fleet and rental service to the best of my knowledge. Haven't seen one these '04 models yet but assume they use same key system as prior models. There is also a completely new Malibu body for 2004 that is designated by GM as a "Z" body that is offered for public sale. It's easily distiguished by it's different grille and sheetmetal. I believe it is based on a GM/Saab "Epsilon" platform, but don't know what it might share with any Saab models. These "Z" body Malibus are the only 2004 versions I've seen at our dealership. The "Z" body keys look very similar to the '03 "N" body blanks, but they are in fact different and carry different part numbers. They are milled thicker in the cutting area of the blank and have "PK3" stamped near the head. It would also appear that they won't fit into the older "N" body locks. Also don't recall that the "N" body used PK3, though they may have had PassLock.
Haven't had to duplicate one of the new "Z" body keys yet and I'm curious if it can even be cut on our old Curtis cutting gun or if they must be ground. Also don't know if these PK3 keys reprogram as easily as they do on the Venture vans. Just did a PK3 key on a 2001 Lesabre that required connection to GM TechII equipment for reprogramming.
Hope this is of some help.

ok, the one I saw did NOT have the PK3 on it, but a large + stamped where the PK3 should be... I ordered in 2 that are supposed to also fit this car and they also have the + on the key body...
thanks for the info... we shall see what it ends up being..

Already correcting myself...to save you the trouble.
The '04 "Z" body Malibu key has only a "+" sign stamped on the shank, not "PK3". And not only is it milled thicker, it's also milled diagonally opposite of the "N" body Malibu key. I thought maybe the older style thinner (and considerably cheaper) key might be usable to code cut a key that would at least open a door or trunk, but the older blanks won't even go into the locks. Also, the new lock system uses 5 cut depths instead of 4, so there's no way for me to even try cutting them on our Curtis gun without at least a new cam-set. However, nothing on the car seems to use a sidebar lock as best as I can tell from the parts catalog. Looks like they use maybe 8 opposed wafers. Haven't had a chance to try picking one yet.
So far the only other GM model usage for this system I've found is the '04 Pontiac "W" body Grand Prix, but there may be others.
