Baldwin C Keyway vs. Schlage "A" Keyway

I am doing a remodel and have gotten much help from you folks. Question is, my wife really likes the finishes on the Baldwin locks and she wants to put in a Mortise on the front door and single keyed entry and deadbolts on the other exterior/utility doors and Baldwin privacy and pass sets on the interior. She says that Schalage does not have a satin nickel finish that is as nice as Baldwin's. How are the Baldwin keyways/cylinders in comparison to the Schlage A type locksets. Baldwin claims that their locksets are solid brass and even the Schalge A type are not. Are the Baldwin locks as easy to work on with respect to parts availability and replaceability. In a residential environment will a Baldwin last as long as a Schlage? Any disadvantages to using Baldwin?

what do you mean by SCHLAGE® "A" keyway??

Are you meaning GRADE "A" ??

The pinning on a baldwin™ and schlage® are the same.

It has been my experience that Baldwin and Schlage both use the same keyway in their "off the shelf" locks. Schlage does have several other keyways which are not common, but that's another news message.

I have only installed Baldwin locks a couple times. And worked on them less than a dozen or so times. Most folks don't want to go the extra money.

The one time I was working on a Baldwin lock which had a stripped gear, my locksmith wholesaler gave me the 800 number for Baldwin. I called them and explained who I was, and what I was working on. They sent out the replacement gear a couple days later and no charge to me. I was impressed.

I can't comment on what parts are supposed to be solid brass, but the Schlage A locks I've worked on have had a LOT of steel in all the right parts. The Schlage residential locks now days (the F-line) are very poor design, in my opinion. Same with the residential Schlage deadbolts.

If you have the cash, I'd go with Baldwin.

Wow, that's interesting. You took the time to put the TM and the (R) on the brand names -- but you didn't capitalize either one of them.
