I started studying how to pick locks this week. I have had some success with some locks but this BRNK's deadbolt wont crack open!!! I can hear five pins for sure. but now and then i think i hear another quiet pin, far in the back.
Some Brinks deadbolts do have six pin stacks. Brinks locks are known for having spool pins. If you can get the plug to turn far enough that it should be open but then jams that's the spool pins hanging up at shear.
Be advised, about 90 % of all locks now made, including those from off shore, contain spool/mushroom pins to stop recreational pickers from opening the locks.
Thats Fubar and you no it Newnsie. Well lets put this in perspective,
90% of locks in Australia DONT spool pins and from what I here from America, the favourite lock is Kwikset or somthing likt that. People here a so hostile towards recreation pickers. Although im a locksmith i still don't have a problem providing references to places that may help you... Try Yahoo locksports or LP101,
thats REAL funny.. the last 3 'chinese' locks I drilled out DID have mushroom pins in them. Brinks was among them, too..(gotta love Walmart)
CAN they be picked? probably... SHOULD they be picked? whats your time worth? you playing around, and want to spend 30 minutes on a 2 dollar lock-go for it..
the NEXT problem in SOME cases is, assuming you are dealing with a 'lost' key, is is there ANY after market blanks available? and in SOME cases, NO.
(gonna tell on self here) in 15 YEARS, I have NEVER picked OR successfully impressioned a Master lock.. had a half dozen guys tell me their method of 'doing it', and it dont work for me.. but an AMERICAN (brand), with mushroom pins has NOT been a problem for me to impression. (go figure)
AND, BTW.. its 'possible' to pin a KW, where its a REAL B**** to pick.. if you do 2 things different..
