Has anyone came across a lock with JL & Co. Ltd. on it. This is a brass type lock on a wooden box. I have been trying to make a key for it using a pipe key guage 9 and smoking but to no avail. Anybody any ideas.
Thanks Ivor

Are You meaning a "Barrel key"?
no it is a lever type key but it is a pipe key. ie. it is hollow up the middle to fit unto a spike type thing inside the keyway.
Hi ivor,
In the U.S. that's called a barrel key.

If it's a serious lock (levers rather than warded), smoking the key isn't going to help you much, and that's about as much help as you're likely to get from strangers.
