We have an older Mosley safe, serial number 42599. It has been in our building since 1903 and our renters have recently locked the doors with valuables inside despite us making them aware we did not have the combination. There are two handles, the right hand of which free spins. We tried some possible old combinations with no luck. Any suggestions on how to open without damaging the safe? With that handle free spinning, will the combinations even work or is the shear pin possibly broken? Any suggestions would be appreciated. We are in Alaska and locksmiths are limited. They are concerned due to the handle spinning that the safe will be damaged if they drill.

There is no way to "talk you through" safe dial manipulation, and no way to "talk you through" how to drill, read combo, and repair the safe. Unfortunately, your only two options are to find a locksmith with combination safe ability and pay him to come there, or ship it to someone that can open it. I'd venture to guess it will be less expensive to do the former. Otherwise, there will be no damage free option for you.

That all depends on the safe not having any manipulation resistant features, but a ~1903 vintage safe probably does not.
