A while back, someone mentioned a "power file" that was very useful for working on small things like latchplates and such as well as work on metal doors. It is essentially a narrow belt sander that's hand-held. The Makita model was being discontinued.

I see that Woodcrafter has one available from Proxxon.

It's kind of pricy ($139 US) but if you need it, you need it.

These "power files" are also made as attachments to a 4 1/2" angle grinder - and in that form they are much less expensive, although it makes a bulkier total package.

Yep ! very useful tool. I have a Black and Decker one that has been 'VERY' well used for the past 10 years or so, and it still does a great job. Best thing for quickly enlarging striker holes, or neatly cutting back other meatal or plastic thingamejigs to fit.
