Thorium Reactor Update?

Back in the late '90s, there was a flurry of activity over the Radowsky reactor, one that was a near-breeder, might be adapted to existing light-water reactors, produced only 20% as much plutonium as a conventional LWR, was more proliferation-resistant, and could utilize weaponsgrade plutonium from dismantled bombs. There was to be a joint US/Russian research project:
