I bought a house recently. There is an exhaust fan in the kitchen; it must date back from the 60s or even the 50s. (The house was built in 1954.)
The fan is very cool in a retro kind of way, so I'd like to keep it, but the motor is dying. (It looks sort of like the front end of a jet engine.) I pulled the motor out over the weekend, and it is completely covered up in old grease. I cleaned it hoping to find a manufacturer but no joy; the manfacturer name was either painted on or a decal and it came off with the grease.
The name might have been something like MERLYN or MERWYN or EDWIN. The model number, which is stamped on the name plate is 4T3690. It is a standard fan motor, 120VAC. I don't have the rest of the name plate in fornt of me, but there was nothing else that might identify it.....
Does any of this ring any bells? I tried googling for 4T3690 but came up blank. Ditto Grainger. I can provide measurements if need be; I think this is a pretty standard size motor; it has 2 mounting studs in the back on about 2.5" centers and a 1/4" shaft. The whole thing is about 2.5" long.
I'm sure that there is a drop-in replacement somewhere... But where?
