air compressor purchase

Could someone suggest a good place to purchase an air compressor in the Uk. It needs to be able to run various power tools easily, not paint spraying and is just for a home workshop. I have looked at machine mart =A3200 type compressors but wonder about the quality.

Thanks very much

First thing you need to do is figure out what the air consumption is of the tools that you have and anticipate obtaining. From there you can then start to select the compressor based on operating pressure/tank volume/compressor output at the required pressure for the most used tool. From there you can narrow down the selection by price, taking into account how much you are going to use it.

For my shop, anything less than 15CFM @ 90 psig., is too small, as is anything with less than 80 gallons of storage tank.

My last portable compressor was about 5 CFM@ 90 psig and 30 gallons of tankage. The smallest of my air drills would drain the tank so fast that the compressor was cycling on after about 30-40 seconds after it reached the cutoff point. The guys that used to maintain the shop compressor where I used to work said that if the compressor cycles on after less than two minuets after cutoff during normal usage, the compressor is too small for the job.
