Angle grinder recommendation

Another thing I've noticed about guards is I get more crumbs in the eye using a grinder with a guard. You know where they're going without it, but they go everywhere when they hit the edge of the guard, come in right behind the glasses.

I have had one 9" wheel come apart on me, but it was my fault- I'd dropped the grinder and thought it didn't damage the wheel. It came apart pretty good, cut my leg, but no big deal.

That works for me. We have Ace in our distant community.

You guys are way too kind! Let me check out the local situation before anyone has to jump through hoops. Sure is nice to know others care enough to lend a hand, and I'm grateful for each and every one of you!

I've seen only one grinding wheel of any consequence explode, and it's a frightening sight. I can't help but think you got off cheap!

I had a small wheel come apart on an internal grinder. The spindle speed was

18,000, and we were running small wheels, starting with 1-1/4" and using them until they were quite small. I was curious how far down I could use one and have it hold up, so I kept running it, while it got smaller and smaller. It was finally down to a diameter slightly larger than the screw when it let go. Part of it hit me in the face, but it had so little mass that it did no damage. Interesting experience.

Well if you have any problems let me know the spindle size and thread pitch. I'll check into it the next time I go to town.

You're probably right. I do make a point to not keep anything really important in line with the wheel, I don't mind those ordinary injuries too much but when the eyes, ears or Mr. Wiggly&friends are involved I tend to hate it as much as anyone, probably worse than most..

Heh. bet it was interesting, that's some pretty fast stuff.
