Dear Midwest Steel Supply

On December 29th I sent an email to snipped-for-privacy@midweststeelsupply.com asking about lead time on some metal.

This is what I asked, "If I order 4 pcs 1/2 x 6 x 72 aluminum flat rectangular bar today when will it ship"

I have since ordered about 600lbs (a little over) of aluminum from another vendor, but I am curious what your lead time is to answer questions about lead time. My order arrives today.

I think I'd be taking their card out of my Rolodex . Or whatever equivalent system you might be using . I buy a lot of stuff on eBay . It works for me in the quantities I need . I'm a hobbyist , you're a business with totally different needs . Hopefully you have found a supplier that will fulfill your needs to your mutual profit . Yeah , OK , I'm a bit tipsy . COA de Jima silver tequila will do that ... smoothly .

Its all good. I haven't bought anything from Midwest in a long time. They usually have the best price for Aluminum online, but you never know when/if you are going to get it. Have another one. Enjoy.

Are you snowed in yet? After all the discussion I've been waiting to read of progress on your truck.

The weather maps have showed the kind of winter New England expects (but has had little of) as far south as Texas.

We've got over 4" on the ground , it's (barely) below zero this morning and the road up to the highway is snow packed . A couple of the neighbors have ventured out , but I have no pressing business to tend to other than hauling in firewood . That I can do on foot . Schools and businesses are closed today all over the state ... I haven't checked the idrive maps yet to what's on the roads but I'm betting everything that was slush yesterday is ice this morning .

------------------------------------ Relatives in Georgia and Florida tend to take jabs at our NH winter weather, but it's no longer funny when they suffer it themselves. I received a Christmas card showing kids sledding, with a note inside saying that was us but not them. On the day it arrived the same rain and wind storm was pounding the entire east coast down to the Keys. One winter Atlanta was so cold my parents cut their visit short and came back, to a house with HEAT. The TV weatherbabe just said that New Orleans was colder (23F) than Boston (32F).

Only ice storms shut us down, by dropping trees across roads and power lines. We'd cut and clear them ourselves except for the shock hazard.

No snow here. Friday afternoon a buddy and I went fishing. I did put on my light jacket around sunset.

I've never experienced your summers, but Atlanta's are too much for me. Grandpa's farm on the mountain wasn't as hot. One can dress for the cold and heat with firewood.

I can tell you hot and humid is insane compared to just hot. I wouldn't want to spend a summer in Atlanta. I spent a couple summers in Ohio, and 98-99F and 90% humid is worse than 110 and 5-15%. 115F+ and its just freaking hot no matter where you are though.

It was -2° here at 6:30 this morning when Max and I went for our moerning walk . Right now at 7:30 PM it's at 2° and dropping . Predicted low was 7° ... so much for that .

10 pm here , it's now -3° and still dropping . Looks like we got us a Cold Snap ... the temp sensor under the house is at 35.9° , down a couple of tenths in the last hour . It was down to just below freezing for a while this morning - I don't need a repeat of last year's frozen/busted pipes . Problem is we can't leave the faucets trickling because the water company's pumps are having problems because of the cold . It's gonna be a long night and I'm probably not going to get much sleep . .

I spent one winter in "cold" and the whole rest of my life in the desert. I'm within reasonable distance of good fishing. Some might argue great fishing. I'm good right here.

The winter I spent in "cold" the coldest I recall was +5F. I remember walking outside and feeling the moisture in my nose and ice up when I breathed in. Hard pass. No pun intended. I also had a couple mornings when I got up in the wee hours to set fires in the vineyard with my grandfather to prevent the grapes from freezing.

Do I miss snow? I can come visit if I want. Do I miss the evergreens. Same answer. Okay, I would have liked to have a shade tree to pull engines under when I was growing up, but...

After shoveling snow with a sore cracked rib I might agree with you.

It got down to -8° last night/early this morning . The thing is , this extreme cold is a once every five or ten years thing . Or it useta be before they started f***in' with the weather . I'm not too awful surprised , we're in that weather pattern "el nina" I think . Or whichever one is involved with the jet stream moving further south . Either way , I'd much rather endure it here than in Memfrica . In addition to to water distribution problems - they said we had problems here , didn't affect our supply - they're having problems meeting electrical demand . Lotta space heaters runnin' right now . I missed a little sleep last night keeping the stove stoked , worth it !
