Food for thought

Oddly enough, I'm right-handed but left-eyed. Tough to find left handed bolt actions. :(

Did score a nice lever action marlin recently though.

Hot damn, closure!

Nossir, but I've gone flounder fishing and hooked a hardhead.

hooks, and start again. So let's do the quick and smart thing, cut

that "republic" is defined by what it's *not* (a state headed by a >monarch)...

Actually, I wrote that it's a form of government WITH a head of state who is NOT a monarch - which is exactly what it is and nothing more. With respect, your continued inability to comprehend the obvious does not render the obvious contradictory - but it does bear eloquent testimony to your powers of comprehension. (g)

The statement is not contradictory. Perhaps you might enlist the aid of a high school civics student if you continue to have difficulty in grasping this simple concept.

republics, as you've said, and you've also included

Bzzt! I defined a republic as a form of government with a head of state who is not a monarch. Within those parameters, it is, most assuredly, unique.

refinement will throw the hook.

Your lack of comprehension is noted. I'm not a big fan of condescension, but I can appreciate your attempt at damage control.

I'm a fairly jovial fellow who can both recognize and appreciate logical fallacies, especially when rendered by folks who ought to know better. Hint: Before you can claim a statement is contradictory, you must first point out the contradiction. Your several attempts have failed, but they have demonstrated your inability to grasp simple concepts and a penchant for attempting to make up for deficiencies in your arguments with logical fallacies. Have you considered running for office? (g)

You can quit whenever it pleases you to do so; I do not require your permission to carry on.

Hot dog! You've said my terminology was "sophomoric," inferring inferiority; therefore, your use MUST be superior. Try again: While that sort of stuff may have stood you in good stead in junior high, this ain't Kansas, Toto.

ROTFLMAO! The Dead Greek must be spinning in his grave. Attempting to add weight to your opinion by claiming endorsement by untold legions of supporters is certainly not a sophomoric - sophomores know better.

Oh? You know this because. (Not think, not wish, not believe, not opine, - know!)

[...]

the US an "oligarchic republic,"...

The Dead Greek is spinning in his grave. Again. Dare I point out that, unless you are clairvoyant, your statement relative to my intentions, whatever they might be, is just conjecture and merely another logical fallacy? On the other hand, I really liked that catchy, alliterative nonsense about "crabbed and chinchy" - it was meaningless, but it sounded good.

Full circle: As advertised, in my opinion, the term that best describes the US government is "oligarchic republic." It has head of state who is not a monarch and real political power rests in the hands of a few. ¿Qué te dije?

Que la vaya bien.

And with that, you get the last word, Tom. I think we've explored this question about as far as it goes, and anyone reading can decide if a republic is a unique structure of government, or not.

Where did you find that bit? I failed to see such a claim anywhere in any of my research. In fact..I didnt see much on any sort of crime..just the fact criminals tend to vote Democrat.

Please post the cites for my education.

Ah...no. A felony is a crime that will get you at least one year or more in state/federal prison. You may be convicted of a felony ..ie in either state or federal jusistictions.

The normal three types of crime

Infractions..generally considered a "civil" crime, such as parking tickets etc

Misdomeaners- criminal action resulting in up to but no more than 1 year in state or federal prison

Felony, see above

Misdomeaners and felonies have various classes within them.

Sorry. A felon is someone who has been convicted of a felony. When one has fullfilled all sentence obligations, he still is under the onus of his conviction, and will still be subject to various restrictions,(for life) such as the inablitity to own firearms etc etc. Even for a white collar crime with no violence involved. A felon is considered "infamous" for life.

you might want to check:

18 U.S.C. App. section 1202(c)(2)

It is possible in very rare situations to have your full rights restored, but it takes a minimum of at least 7-14 years and pretty much an act of God.

Did I mention I was a deputy sheriff for a number of years?

Check out the new Savages. EXCELLENT firearms.

Savage was nearly in the toilet 10 yrs ago, and they brought in a real shooter/hunter gun buff and he redesigned the product lines, improved quality control and they started making rifles shooters really wanted.

Good Stuff Maynard! and most are available in southpaw versions.

Click on the various types, and they show left handed models. We recently gave a 110 E left handed .270 to an old and dear friend. A bunch of us chipped in and got it for him.

What chambering?

Yeah? Did they reduce the lock times? That was the biggest problem with the Model 110, which otherwise was pretty nice (a cleaned-up, sporterized copy of a 1917 Enfield, actually). I used to shoot my boss's 110 in .243, and it was quite accurate but a drag if you weren't shooting prone or off a sandbag, because of the slow hammer.

Gunner, you didn't quote any facts; you just quoted someone making theoretical suppositions based on statistics, and then someone else using those suppositions in a paranoid fear mongering attack on a political party.

The sociologists who did the study seem to be operating under the assumption that felons *would* vote if they could. I have my doubts. After reading some of these posts I had an opportunity to ask a felon if she had voted before going to prison. She hadn't. I asked if she would now if she could. She didn't think so although she knows that she can't right now (lives in Texas). Chuckle. A rather small sample. I'll work on getting more. Sue - wondering if Gunner objects to felons be able to vote and, if so, on general principles or because they *might* vote as Democrats.

Yup..the FP series as an example, has gotten a really good rep from the varmint shooters and its become a regular staple in police sniper teams.

Hell of a shooter right out of the box.

The old Savages would kick the snot out of me. Stock ergonomics would take a simple 06 and turn it into a 375 H&H. No idea what they did to the design, but they are comfortable to shoot now.

Hell..my Enfield sporter in 375 H&H is more comfortable to shoot then the old 110s even in a moderate cartridge like 3006.

¿Qué es eso? Another post from Ed Huntress concerning the structure of republics?

One hates to labor the obvious, but in your preceding post, you wrote: "But we have to conclude somewhere, so I'm going to conclude here. Carry on if you wish; I'm out after this one..."

No me importa, but you said one thing and did another, a feat that suggests you should consider running for office - you're a natural. (g)
