If you handload using pistol primers (softer than rifle) it usually cured the misfires. the long throat wasn't much of an acuracy problem since the gun wasn't really a bench rest type gun anyway. The later Contenders use that rotary firing pin, and TC retrofited at least one that I know of, for free.

Using a short bullet, upon firing, the bullet tends to want to turn a bit sideways before it engages the rifling. If its no longer absolutly true to the bore, as it engages the rifling, it goes in out of balance and as its swagged by the bore, it becomes out of round and out of balance. As it exits the barrel, spinning many hundreds of thousand rpms..the now yawling and pitching bullet tends to fly off in various directions as it precesses. Though the out of balance/out of concentric condition is small..its big enough to no longer fly true as it spins.

The longer bullet tends to have less distance to travel before it engages the rifling, hence it will be less out of line, and therefore its balance is less effected as it is squeezed through the bore, coming out more balanced.

High precision shooters use concentricity gages to make sure the case and chamber are inline with the barrel (suprising how many are not) as well as the bullet/cartridge alignment. Then the bullets are often seated to touch the rifling for a minimum amount of travel before the upset process begins.

Suprising though how many cartridges are less effected by this phenomenon. Load a 125 gr bullet in a 3030 and its a remarkably accurate cartridge, almost suited for varmints. Load a short 38 wadcutter into a

Neck size neck size neck size. I prefer the 357 Herrit for most of my hunting, and while its a rimmed case (3030 shortened a smidge and opened to .357), I never headspace from the rim, but off the shoulder. There is always a smidgon of resistance when it closes. 180 gr Speer Spirepoint at 2100 fps, and cases last indefinately. Never lost a case due to seperation or split necks even after 20 or more reloads.

The 7 TCU cases are blown out, then necksized only forever after. Etc etc.

I do neck anneal after about 10-15 reloads in such cartridges above however.

I do the same with 303 Brit in rifles, using 30-40 Krag brass. Trim to length and size the shoulder down until the bolt closes with a bit of snug, and they last forever, unlike the usual 10 reloads and stretch ring/seperation An added advantage is 30-40 brass with nice thick webs and walls are cheap and easy to find.

Why would you presume people at a "copshop" should be the arbiters of right and wrong in the English language?

How about this: You read the Uggens and Manza (2002) paper that you cited to me and count how many times "ex-felon" is used. Both authors are professors at major universities... not some hacks just butchering the English language.

You originally said there is "no such thing as an ex-felon." But that's not correct -- "ex-felon" is *defined* as someone previously convicted of a felony who has since served their prison and/or probation terms.

None of this is to say that an "ex-felon" can own a gun or, in many cases, vote. As long as the felony conviction remains on their record, by law they cannot own a gun, vote, etc.

ex-felon is still an incorrect term. I stand by my statement. Have you called a lawyer or judge yet? If not..get back to me when you have resolved their answer.

If they are an "ex-felon" then no rules or restraints resulting from their felony conviction apply. If due to the fact they have a felony conviction on their record, they indeed are restricted by dint of being amoung a class of such individuals..then the label still applies.

Sorry buddy..once convicted of a felony, unless such was set aside or overturned..you are indeed a felon for life.
