Had a "smash and grab" accident today

When I was still going on trips I had a Garmin GPS III velcroed to the dash. When ever I had to stop and leave the truck unattended, that is exactly where I put a cap/hat that was in the truck just for that purpose. You had to look really hard from outside the truck to realize that there was something hiding underneath the hat.

I always kept a spare coat, sweatshirt... something commonly seen in vehicles of little value covering anything of value. Out of sight always worked for me (knock on wood).

I think the response from the police was positive, that is, they charged the guys, but I don't remember for sure. It goes back to when I was in high school.

Secret weapon: minnows, particularly fragile ones like rainbows, succumb much more quickly to overtemp than to lack of oxygen. Cooled oxygenated water keeps minnows combat-ready. "Show me a walleye, eeeyahhh!"

Don' need no air-to-air heat exchangers AKA heatsinks. The lake, and therefore the livewell, is a huge water-cooled sink for the TE cooler. Shhhhh..don't tell!

What would you do with pix of perps if you had them? How might they be worth the bother of collecting?

Good for you but Cook county seems to extend their tenticles across the state. I find it amazing how Illinois exists right next to Indiana and far more rational state.

One use might be to show a tracker who to look for since the police can't do it. A person might find the largest, meanest guys in the neighborhood and have them track down the perps (and if they serve justice to the perps, who's to worry?), returning the stolen goods to you for a reward.

Just ordinary Styrofoam blueboard, 2" thick. I use 1- or 1-1/2" for very small ones. Have you seen what's in commercial coolers lately? Ha! You're lucky if it's a half-inch thick.

I've made close to a dozen of these over the years. Mostly they're to keep equipment from overheating. An old rubbing-alcohol bottle, filled with water and frozen, will keep all my blood-testing stuff cool for two days inside of a 8-inch-cube of 2" Styrofoam, inside of a hot car.

I just cut it with a carpenter's saw, and I cut a rabbet in the top and the lid, with a utility knife, to get a good fit. I keep it closed with a big rubber band or, for the big ones, a piece of thin bungee cord. Glue the pieces together with something that doesn't dissolve Styrofoam. I usually use waterproof Titebond, or Elmer's white waterproof glue.

These things last longer than you'd think if you don't beat them up. I have a little one I made for film that must be 20 years old.
