Impact gun's max pressure

Hasn't hurt any of mine yet. One is 40 years old.

Not that I know of. If your gun is rated at 800 ft-lbs, you aren't getting it. You can twist off most any wheel stud with half of that. Any 1/4 of that would looses any wheel nut of most any road-going machine.

Make sure it's lubed, see what psi they rate that torque at. Last, take it back where you bought it, or call the manufacturer.

My current compressor maxed at 125 as well and I have always cranked it up if I needed a little more torque. However one thing that might be overlooked is if you are using certain quick disconnect fittings that they throw in with some of the compressors kits they are small and hinder the flow. Replace with insdustrial type connectors to match the hose size I.D. better and give you a bit extra power for the impact gun.

And go to another tire shop. They are probably over torquing your lug nuts and risking damage to the studs :-|

Are you using good impact sockets? Play in the socket can sap a lot of impact. The rating sounds ridiculously high for a 1/2 impact gun. Did you pay more than $29 for it?

Generally not, but don't run it at full throttle at full pressure with no load on it. It might spin itself apart. You wouldn't like that.

I would be more concerned about those apes damaging my rotors, wheels, studs and nuts.

I will second what Jeremy said , and add that some regulators cut cfm enough that you won't get rated torque - a thousand psi at .05 cfm is totally useless ... I run mine without a regulator(my small 20 gal tank is unregulated - now ) most of the time . And try to keep it in the top half of the compressor switch's pressure range .

Check for restrictions in the lines. I have an impact rated for 625 in reverse and it'll take off semi truck lugnuts most of the time. And it can literally rip the studs out of a pickup. I use 3/8 hose and 3/8 Tru-flate fittings through a regulator good for 170cfm at 120 psi. It's set to 125 psi so it's about 100psi by the time it goes through 70 feet of hose and reaches the gun. If you have one of those "mini" regulators with the 1/4" pipe fittings on it then it's your problem. Tee in a psi gauge at the impact's handle and make sure you get at least 90psi. Running too much pressure will hurt the gun. Usually it'll blow up the air motor's output shaft, with is a pricey part. Actually pretty rare to do it, but still sucks all the same. Also, make sure you oil your air inlet before you use the gun.
