Looking for fitting (plastic)

greetings, Well, I couldnt find rec.crafts.plastics, but they probably aren't near as smart as the metalworking guys anyhow.

I'm trying to find some (100) black nylon, single 1/4" hose barb to MALE 3/4" GHT (Garden Hose Thread) fittings. I need to deliver a relatively low pressure solution from a 1/4" hose to a female garden hose fitting.

I can only find multibarb models, and I really do need the reliabilty and grab of a single sharp barb.

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it !

Thanks, Grummy

You've conflicted us with requirements beyond specifications. IF it's a low-pressure application, you don't need extra retention strength. Besides, who said a multi-barb fitting wasn't as good at hose holding as a single barb?

There are a lot of issues with multi-barb fittings. First, you seldom find ones where there is no parting line on the 2nd and 3rd barb, an if you look close, the 2nd and 3rd barb are never as sharp as the first. Sometimes, the second barb takes away the possible tension that could exist on the first sharp barb. Parting lines cause leaks, multibarbs work best with clamps. When testing, I can put up to 50 psi on a single barb (no clamp) without a leak, but 50 psi leaks. The app will never reach 50 psi though, but I do not want to end up with a leak after some period of time goes by and the hose gets excersised..

More importantly, the multi-barb is too long, the device I connect to can be dropped and the long barb can break off EASIER than a single shorter barb. Maybe hard to explain, but I really need the single barb.

Cut off the lower barbs?

With all that in mind, and given that you need only 100 of them, why not get the multis, and just cut off all but the last barb.

I need 100 up front. I hope to need millions ! The last barb on all that I look at are rounded and have a parting line. I can use them with the tubing I use IF I drop a heatshrink around them, and might be what I have to do on the first 100.

Then call the manufacturers until you find one who will make them for you. If you're doing product development, you've sometimes got to invest money.

If you don't want to pay someone for special tooling etc yet, then buy them and whack 'em off. How long can it take to cut off a plastic barb on a bandsaw?

Once you need millions, they will be quite affordable as a custom order item.

For a 100, a coffee and a set of snips, should cover it, from the multi barbed originals.
