My Troyke CNC rotary table is actually working!

Remember two points:

  1. Index pulse homing provides resistance to homing errors caused by chips getting on the home switch ramp or roller.

  1. RTs are continuous rotation devices, and there are cases where you may want to rotate more than 360 degrees continuously while machining to overrun the start point of a milled grove for example to provide a smooth surface finish with no start/stop marks.

Its the "almost instantanious" part that you should be concerned about.

It might be nice and tight at the moment...but if you use it a lot...it wont be so tight in the future. Best do it right, and never worry about it in years to come.

You can be sure that I will not use it a lot.

The ramp (hump) on the side will look like this:

so the table will have plenty of room to stop.

Running fast into a home switch has many advantages, related to prevention of bouncing. I remember that homing too slowly, for my X axis, led to home switch bouncing and confusing EMC. I upped the homing rate and I am good now. I hope at one inch per second on all axes simultaneously.

Yes, you can program a scroll in G-code, but of all the things I can think of that require a good finish, chuck scrolls are right up there. Minor interpolation errors would create a "grabby" finish.

Scrolls are (were?) usually machined with mechanical devices, with gearing to establish the spiral pitch.

Wrong CNC machine. Use a CNC lathe for a perfect scroll. Just like threading.
