"By calling attention to 'a well regulated militia', the 'security' of the nation, and the right of each citizen 'to keep and bear arms', our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny which gave rise to the Second Amendment will ever be a major danger to our nation, the Amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic civilian-military relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason, I believe the Second Amendment will always be important." -- Senator John F. Kennedy, (D) 1960

An older one, like mine. Note that this one is "Nichols", not "Nicols", FWIW. (Same way that I spell my name.)

Some things to know about this model:

1) You'll have to do some modification to allow it to use the Nichols right-angle head. 2) It has two speeds with two pulley grooves per speed, for two belts in parallel. To get the other two, you have to lift the belt guard off, and interchange the pulleys between the spindle and the motor shaft. (If you can find pulleys from a later one, it is possible to adapt them, so you can have five speeds available without having to interchange pulleys. 3) It is hard to tell for sure, because of the way the image was cropped, but it looks as though this one has only the lever feed for X-axis. Some (including mine) have a leadscrew with a half-nut which can be disengaged to allow the lever feed to do its thing. 4) This one seems to have the second lever to move the spindle vertically. I had to make one for mine. 5) If it indeed says Whitney on the castings, it is one of the very old ones, like mine. The later ones only said "Nichols".

Still -- it is a good price (at the moment) for about 1100 pounds of milling machine.

Good luck to whoever, DoN.
