on the off chance

I'm trying to source a short length of large diameter steel tube in SE england (N Surrey). Around 12 to 14 inch Dia. or there abouts, schedule not important, but something like 20 (approx 6mm wall) would be fine. I only need about 3 foot of tube and all I seem to be able to find is 6 metre lengths. Anyone got any off cuts in the SE England area?

Since you've found a source of 6-metre lengths, I suggest you go there and read the side of the next truck (lorry?) leaving the place with some.

OK, that might take too long, so call up your local large construction company and ask them. I've found that most people are happy to help out with things like this, it's a small change from their boring routine.

Hey Simon,

No real help, but that and somewhat larger are used in well casings. Maybe check with a local well driller for a cut-off?

Oh, and also pilings in marine use, except they tend to just drive all the way in rather than have to cut-off other than the mushed-over end bit.

Take care.
