Aside from St George, and where ever it was that the Duke was filming Ghengis Khan., but yeah... I know what you mean.

Back when Le Frogs were planning a round of tests, I thought if would be "way cool" to organize a cruise to watch it. Sell tee-shirts with a fireball or silhouette of a skeletal hand, with the slogan "I saw the light!"

They may be ugly f****rs to you, but some thing is finding them attractive; otherwise there wouldn't be so many of them! tschus pyotr

No worries my friend - all that money has been spent to employ high-tech folks to build cool stuff that transfers to non-military use, to benefit all of us, either as employees who then spend that money, or as passive beneficiaries of new technology.

I giggle whenever I see short-thinking idiots whine about all that military or science spending, as if the money magically evaporates because it's spent on that rather than paying someone in the inner-city to make another baby they can't afford. OK maybe giggle isn't the right concept here but, it's amusing in a sad, "wow, are you naiive" kind of way.

Absolutely, yes. High-tech projects employ high-tech employees. Which makes us more valuable. Which increases my salary. Which I then spend on things which aren't always high-tech. Nothing magical about this, or mysterious.

What specifically about my observations do you find illogical please? I work in a high-tech field. I am paid very well for it. My talents are competed for by the company I work for, and by defense contractors. Because of this competition, my salary has improved substantially in the last 5 years. How exactly is this brainless, please? Supply, demand, price. If you went to college these terms should be vaguely familiar to you.

Damn straight. How else would we have gotten all those shiny Hummer Suburban Assault Vehicles? They've taken out more than a few of dem' passive beneficiaries, you bettcha.

And MREs, for those spur-of-the-moment dinner parties with people you never want to see again.

My personal favorite, though, is the night-vision goggles. Heh, heh,...heh.

Except the article doesn't state that.

You should read the article where they state that.

Or if you really want to argue against the idea, read her paper and argue about the actual data.

Nukes - the ultimate nerd goody. Lots of math, electronics, machining, wiring, getting everything "just so". And for what? To make a great big mother loving flash, bang and hole in the ground. "Whoa, cool!"

Right, it was also known as "White Gas." We had to make a special trip to the Amoco station on the way to camping trips to get fuel for our Coleman stove and lantern in the 60's as my father wasn't about to pay the prices Coleman wanted for their stove/lantern fuel.
