OT -- downloading YouTube videos

I just realized that I should mention something about downloading YouTube videos as .AVI files. (a subject I mentioned when I posted my perl script to do so).

Another way of doing it, without the script, is to use Firefox as browser and one of the Firefox extensions that download YouTube videos. (VideoDownloader or some such).

It is slightly less convenient than doing that from a script, especially when you want to download many videos, but it does not involve messing around with perl, etc, which is a plus for Windows users who are not perl aficionados.

I said that it is less convenient because it involves a lot of clicking and a lot of waiting, compared to just letting the script run unattended, give videos proper names automatically, and then report everything that failed, like my script does. For my script, I just give it URLs and let it do the job. OTOH, the Firefox extension is easy to use and does not involve installing perl modules.

Yes, it is called VideoDownloader, and it works great.

Not nearly as great as a batch script, but well enough.

I was looking for a Bookmarklet that would do something similar and found this site:

If you add the video id on the end like this:

it will do the work for you, or so it appears. I haven't spent a lot of time fooling with it just yet but it appears to work.

If you are already viewing a Youtube video, all you have to do is insert "kiss" and hit return on the address line.
