OT-Interesting website on Terrorism

The poll numbers are meaningless, however. Suppose, for a moment, that you are an Iraqi resistance fighter and have just been asked by a pollster what your opinion of the occupation is. Do you say: "I hate it, that's why I'm out there taking pot-shots at them every night." or do you say something else?

That's going to be a major problem - there won't be any leaving, and the longer the staying, the less credibility.

Post all you like. I doubt that Sr. will say anything contrary now though. The point is that back when he could speak without contradicting Jr., he recognized the fundamental problems of occupying a very troubled place. So did most of the rest of the world, then and now. But you and your 17 year old hero, both self-professed geopolitical whiz-bangs, believe you can out-post reality. Meanwhile even poor Rummy had to admit that they didn't foresee the problems. Blinded by rhetoric perhaps. Only a few weeks ago they were saying that they had but a couple thousand troublemakers. Now Gunnervision, diehard apologist, puts it at 25K. Even you ought to be able to admit there's an umm... trend there. Think another few thousand soldiers and $70B a year can keep the pot from boiling over? I bet that as the number of men and dollars required continues to rise, you'll have to post links to ever more quackish web sites to prove that "they just love us over there... " Never fear, there will always be a blog editor in a trailer somewhere to back you up. Looking forward to the inevitable Gunnervision news flash - "check out this artticle by a 12 yr. old from Lancaster, kid's a damned genius!" :-)

Indeed. It is much more important to observe what the people *do* instead of what a hand selected sample of them *say*. Any sizable resistance movement, and Gunner has now accepted the obvious and admits there is one, needs at least the tacit support of a large portion of the population in order to operate.

Large numbers of Iraqis have to know *who* the resistance fighters are, *where* they are, and who supports and hides them. Yet large numbers of Iraqis aren't *turning them in* to the occupation forces, despite substantial rewards being offered. Instead, they are silently (and at times not so silently) cheering the resistance fighters on in their struggle against the invaders.

Even the Iraqis recruited, trained, and paid by the Americans, ie the police and new Iraqi military, have either refused to fight the resistance, or actually switched sides when push came to shove. In other words, we can't even *buy* allies in Iraq.

Exactly, gumdrop, which is why one should be skeptical of some tidbit broadcast online (or in print, or on TV, etc.), and should try and confirm from credible independent sources that the tidbit is accurate.

You just cut and paste half-truths, rumors and innuendo from very unreliable sources and try to pass it off as gospel. It's a fault in your character, and you need to correct it.
