Like apparently all showerheads, my showerhead has a female connector. So how on Earth is it supposed to fit on the end of a shower hose extension that is female to female?
Obviously I am missing something.

You may have bought a replacement extension for a hand-held spray wand instead of a fixed head. Straight threads with a rubber washer should seal to the same nominal size of NPT (tapered) brass close nipple or male-male reducer. That's how I connected a hose that fit the shower head tube to a sink spray hose.
