Plastic Mesh Sleeving Source

Nov 28, 2004 8 Replies

Hi, I want to buy a few rolls of the expandable plastic mesh sleeving that is often used to protect end mills and similar cutting tools during storage. McMaster Carr has it, but it is not quite as dirt cheap as I would have expected. Anybody know of better sources? I am probably looking for something like 100 feet each of 1/2, 1, and 1.5 inch expanded diameters.

Thanks, Mill

here's a manufacturer, I am not sure about ordering from them, but they could find you a local dealer. We use a lot of it at work but I am not sure where we get it and I am in Canada :-)

Internet mesh is a great place to buy from.......They will also send you samples so you can look and see at what they have first before buying. I have bought quite a bit of various net and mesh from them just this past year form a few hundred feet of poultry netting to a few hundred feet of aquaculture mesh, extruded poly filter sleeves and other various items........ Sad, it is. Plastic mesh sleeving used to be one of the things Boeing Surplus excelled at. Huge rolls dirt cheap. Sigh.

GWE

I have worked on lots of aircraft in the USAF and civilian world and the plastic type loom used commonly called "panty hose" by the troops on aircraft is made of a different composition altogether than what is typically used for protecting cutters etc....The stuff the military uses will not burn and is made of aramid or kevlar. It may melt after a certain point but it will not sustain a flame all by itelf..Pretty high priced as well........the commercailly availabl stuff used for protecting parts etc is made of a PP or PE or such plastic... I've bought caps from them at a good price but don't know how their sleeving compares.
