Postal Service Incompetence

Jun 19, 2013 27 Replies

For those of you who care how we spend our money, I thought I'd let you see an example of what the United States Post Office sent me (by automated mail) in response to my complaint that my postal boxes had not been shipped timely. Follows, an exact copy:

"Lloyd, I know it is difficult for you to run your business and provide your customers with the type of customer service we all expect. When we do live up to our comentments of safe and reliable service. I have checked my resources and for your supplies that you have ordered and not received may I suggest you contact Our Supplies Office where we may further assist you: "

It isn't even English! It was written by someone who is illiterate, was never proof-read by anyone, and is now "the official response" to complaints!

The second portion after the first period isn't even a sentence; and "comentments"? PLEASE!

This is a perfect example of the incompetency of those who run many of our government agencies. They don't speak English, even as their third or fourth language, yet are required to be able to read and write it in order to deal with us "unruly natives".

I'm sending on a copy of this to my Congressman!

The post office employs too many liberals, so their form letters are written to the level they understand. I was at the post off the other day, and the clerk was bragging that he was retiring next month. He bragged that he would get his military Pension, Postal pension and Social Security. Then he proudly proclaimed, "Why would I vote for any Republican, when I'll get all that for free!"

I had one package sitting in Chicago for over two weeks, before it moved again.

It's a wonder that we get any of our mail.

Good for you. While you're at it, ask him if he thinks buying million dollar homes for the postmasters is a good direction for the USPS. And ask him why they give near-free mailing costs to the junk mailer. And ask him why they spent 1.5 million dollars for a Super Bowel commercial. (typo intentional) And ask him why they backed Lance Armstrong...

The post office is entirely self funded.

We order ours about a month in advance, never a problem--got a small room set aside just for storing them, in fact

Reduce their funding, maybe they'll get their act together and hire people who can actually speak English..

--oops.....almost forgot.....they're self funded.....

Look...a few years back, Congress saddled them with the requirement to fund employee retirement benefits for 75 years in advance. No other entity, public or private, has such a mandate..

I feel I'm getting excellent service for the price, (which ultimately is paid by my customers anyways) but if you think your customers would be happier paying more for UPS or FedEX then there's really nothing to stop you from changing over...

--in fact, we've recently gone to using "Preferred Ship" for almost all international shipments and they generally come in about 30% lower and delivery to places like Hong Kong or Australia usually arrive in 2 to 3 days, box weight is not limited to 70lbs and so forth. Curiously, every pickup to date has been via DHL

But getting back to the post office...IMO, the REAL problem is spelled out fairly well below:

"In 2006, the United States Congress passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 (PAEA). This bill required that the USPS prefund its future health care benefit payments to retirees for the next 75 years in an astonishing ten-year time span."

"This health benefit prefunding mandate covers not only current employees that will retire in the future, but employees yet to be hired who will eventually retire. On top of this, none of the money that the USPS contributes to this fund can be used to pay for current retiree health benefits"

Need to clarify here, we still use USPS for most individual international shipments, as well as for all domestic...

But we are now using "Preferred Ship" for most international distributer shipments, which tend to be kind of heavy, and bulky as well.

The sole exception being a single customer who insists that we use his "TNT" acount

--I forget where he is located but in this instance, it's always Fedex that does the pickup, and without fail, they've never arrived on the scheduled pickup day but instead ALWAYS show up at least a full day late.

Would you call me 'self funded' if I never had to pay any income taxes, had the ability to just walk over and kick a neighbor out of his house if I wanted it, and if I could get loans at zero interest for 40 years on my signature alone -- and all this established and upheld by federal laws... but YOU didn't get any of those perqs?

If I had all that advantage, you can be certain I wouldn't be crying poor-mouth every two years, asking for rate increases, "because I (sob) just can't make any money this way!!!!" Instead, I'd be firing about six million incompetent, illiterate loafers who are only with the Post Office as a form of "make it look like you're working" welfare. WPA, without shovels.

As to your other point... sure, I can order them (at least) a month out, and be relatively sure of getting them in that time. But they state better service than that (about 10 working days). We unexpectedly and suddenly needed a bunch of 'small flat rate boxes', which we've never used before.

When we asked our local PO for them, even though they had enough for our needs and the queue customers' needs, they flatly refused, saying, "Sorry, those are for customers. YOU have to order them on-line." I damned near came unglued when that moron said that.

When stupid, uneducated, minority 'unemployables' are given jobs that require intelligent, educated people to do them, we call that "equal opportunity". When smart, educated people get the same jobs, we call it "racial discrimination".

(are those of the former "moronity employees", or "Minorons"?)

Lloyd

Luckily, you can order them online quickly and easily, and they are (were?) free. I'd have asked to talk to the Postmaster about that employee. If it was the Postmaster who had said that to you, it would have been reported to (and, hopefully, made) our local newspaper that day. This kind of shooting themselves in the foot has to be made public for it to gain any traction against them.

Who's this "we" you refer to? Not one of us here would condone any of that s*it. Otherwise, +1 to all of the above. The other day, when faced with a woman who worked and moved -very- slowly, I almost asked if she had worked for the USPS. I decided against it because I'll likely be in her line again some day soon, and she'd be even worse because of it.

I prefer the former and will have to start using that term.

'We', this nation. Not I. I call 'em like I see 'em.

Lloyd

Yes, I would.

The "perk" that YOU get is called "affordable postage", Lloyd...

--like I say, you're free to go someplace else if you want to pay more...

No, you would simply raise your rates, like Fedex and UPS does.

I don't know about your post office but where I'm at they'e working their tails off.

The sheer volume of postal rules and regulations that they must abide by in order to keep their jobs is truly mind boggling.

It's an exceedingly hostile workplace, IMO and I feel sorry for them, really I do.

They have to order them in advance also, just like you do...the difference is that they are only allowed to keep a certain amount on-hand.

Occasionally, we've been known to "loan" some of ours back to our local PO, due to situations like you've desctibed; so far nobody has been reprimanded or fired over this but it's a real possibility.

Then get a job there, show them how it SHOULD be done, Lloyd....

Race has absolutely nothing to do with postal regulations concerning shupping box allocation and you know it.

Suggest get over it and order yourself some damned boxes so that this doesn't wind up happening all over again.

I'm not THAT stupid, PM, no matter what you think. I have plenty, now, and won't run out again.

In the meantime, UPS WILL ship less expensively across the nation at about 50lb. (admittedly, not a SFRB).

Lloyd

Ya, but UPS charges $19.20 to send a letter. FedEx charges $14.39

Paul K. Dickman

Well, no sense getting all worked up about something you can not change, and hopefully you understand now that the guy was simply following the established rules and had he done otherwise he might have ended up geting fired over it.

Do you really think your congressman is more literate or better at any job than the person as the postal service?

Cydrome Leader fired this volley in news:kpvrls$55$ snipped-for-privacy@reader1.panix.com:

Yup... met 'em both (in person, and we talked "small businesses") (well my senators). The congressman is on the list. I have not met him yet.

The letters go to all three.

Lloyd

maybe if you quit being a racist snit, you would have a better result when you talk to people - rudeness, disrespect, hatred, and anger rub off. Maybe even on your customers.

You're a nincompoop. MY racisim extends only as far as my wallet. Idiots of ANY color are idiots. Uneducated incompetents of any race are still that. Its a fact - and not my fault - that most of the uneducated, incompetent, dole-takers and dole-SEEKERS in this country are folks of color. I didn't create the fact or it's causes, but it affects me.

I don't treat any people of any race rudely unless first so-treated, and then only in the measure required to let them know exactly how much I appreciated their treatment of me.

You, on the other hand, being a person who enjoys nothing more than to whack people with your Bible, don't understand the first thing about dealing charitably with people. You don't even follow your own religion. In fact, you deliberately thwart the Bible's teachings to feed your own hate.

Your only intent is to punish and attack _anyone_ you can ad-hominem with the excuse that they're evil unless they believe the same twisted version of false Christianity that you do. Some time, you might want to read that book you're using as a weapon.

It's full of all sorts of things that might change your hateful outlook on all everyone else in the world.

And if you're having stuff delivered by UPS, be careful with UPS Ground. Final delivery is often by USPS. In my case, that means if the package is too big to fit in the box at the front of the subdivision, it goes back to the post office and I have a 45 min. round trip and $5 worth of gas to retrieve it, as well as a 10 to 30 min. wait in line at the post office. This after paying for "UPS Ground" delivery to my door.

Let the shipper know if USPS is unacceptable for large items.

USPS delivered the megger from Amazon to my house in a box measuring

9" x 9" x 18". The label says "carrier leave if no response". jsw

I have an oversized mailbox, and have given the USPS driver permission to put anything that's too big for the box & doesn't require a signature on my back porch. I had to laugh one day. The old driver had three huge boxes from three different Ebay vendors. Over 100 pounds of books. :)
