Shooting range/where I live

I was emailing a gent about the range he recently joined..showing me pictures of a VERY nice range in Minn..and I realized why I get the willies whenever Im in the East and Midwest.

These are random photos of the areas around my homestead...just to show you that not all people live in nice tree lined enclaves in the woods. And why most of us shooters tend to lean towards long range rifles and the ability to shoot 1000 or more yards....

"Marvelous range!

"Chuckle...I live in the desert. We set our ranges up so that a mountain or high hill is our backstop. No trees around..or damned few. Having trees for a back stop tends to make me suck up a bit...its so "unsafe"..chuckle.

Well...chuckle..you get the idea. Which is why we tend to develop long range rifles..300 Win Mag, 7mm Mag and so forth. And the reason I tend to be a bit clausterphobic whenever Im driving in the east.....If I cant see 5-20 miles on either side of the road....chuckle...

This of course means that we have to learn to hit shit at long ranges too.....shrug.

I live in Kern County California..the home of Edwards Airforce Base, the Mojave Desert etc etc...We tend to see things slightly differently than those in the east.....

Hide behind something? As you can see..one has to be good at camoflage and profile patrolling..or one can be seen from miles and miles away.

Ya know there Elmer Fudd, you think you are cool because you can see them a long ways off, but they can see you a long ways off too. You'ld be a lot better off being in the trees and keep a few dogs to warn you if anyone gets close.

Don't encourage Gummer to get more dogs. He kills them.

Because you think that the bill collectors won't be able to find you? Really, you shouldn't be joining ranges and such until you find a way to pay your bills. Survivalism is about setting priorities. It's a skill set you need improvement on.

His cats would long ago have eaten the dogs.

But you DO offer a roundabout explanation for the near-sighted views of those on the wrong side of The Big Muddy.

LOL In your imagination no doubt you're going to take out your tormentors with extreme prejudice from 1000 yards. But in reality you'll be sitting there as always cranking out more whoppers from your keyboard when the debt collectors simply walk up to your door. Tell them all the fables you like. Even though they've heard it all before it should gain you a little more time. Too bad you'll spend it sitting on your ass instead of shopping for a sturdy refrigerator box.

I often say to people that you get a lot more land for your money back east and they look at me funny. The old classic 'Five Acres and Independence' was obviously written for eastern acres. Around here if you have a 5 or 10 acre ranchette you can't even take a leak in the backyard without the neighbor calling 911 to report you for indecent exposure.
