Solid-Liquid state sensor for metallic charges

Dear All,



I am doing thisgraduation project research about a Solid-liquid state sensor for metallic charges ( copper ) , the project inculdes a thermocouple ( I choose type K because it can maintain the melting tempretaure of copper) , an electric switch ( which might be a transistor ) and an industrial furnace and a heating element connected to the furnace.



PLEASE DOES ANY ONE OF YOU KNOW HOW CAN I CONNECT THERMOCOUPLE TO THE FURNACE? ANY WEBSITES?



WHAT MIGHT THE HEATING ELEMENT BE ? A COIL?WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF THE CURRENT TO THAT COIL ? HOW CAN I CONTROL IT ?



DO I NEED A SERVO MOTOR ?

The reason students are given research projects is so they will learn to do research.

Search engines like Google et al can be helpful.

or, you could always try asking a question on a relevant newsgroup.... asking people to share knowledge is a great way to research a subject in my opinion ;-)

Don, Id be happy to help you out, but dont really know what i can tell you.... Im currently working in one of the most productive copper/lead/zinc mines in the world in Mt Isa, Australia... i also have a bit of a background in electronics, though im working as a boilermaker at the moment. My understanding of the smelting process is really only quite rudimentary, but if you could ask some more specific questions, i might be able to get you some answers....

Mr. Don , what do you mean by et al ? ( you said google et al) . because whenever I want to look for something, most of the results are commerical stuff. Have you got any idea how can I find useful links. Thansk alot.

Et al is an abbreviation for " et alia", Latin for "and others". Its use in legal terminology and bibliographic cites has leaked into American English. I meant Google and other search engines.

Based on your question, I strongly suspect that "commercial stuff" will be your best approach.

your question, see if you can speak or correspond with an applications engineer there. Omega manufactures and sells both thermocouples and electric furnace controllers for industrial and research applications.

It can be if the researcher has enough background to find the nuggets in the pile. Otherwise it's best to stick with sources known by reputation to be knowledgable about the subject of interest. Some newsgroup responses are misleading and some are just plain incorrect.
