Where can I find a pto

I cant find one for an old bushog around here.

The PTO is part of the tractor, not the mower. It's the little 4-6" long splined shaft sticking out the rear end.

If you mean a "PTO drive-line", which is the telescoping drive shaft with two U-joints that connnects the mower to the PTO, then that's easy.

Order one mail-order from Agri-Supply, Northern Tools, or Tractor Supply.

Where do you live where tractors and mowers exist, but there are no tractor supply houses?

And, I'm not sure what would be different about the drive line for "an old bush hog", as opposed to a new one. They're pretty standard within a horsepower class. What size mower?

I went to tractor supply. They did not have one long enough. Most of theres were smooth witha keyway insert. This bushog (5 or 6 feet not sure) is splined like the tractor but has a hole through the center of the shaft.

Will using a pto drive line without the hole work ok? I figure it is probably for a shear pin or something.

Most are not splined at the mower end, but smooth-bore with a shear pin hole. Usually, a mild steel bolt is used as a shear pin (don't use grade-8 hardware!)

It is a VERY BAD IDEA to use a splined coupling on both ends of the drive line unless you have a friction clutch between the pto and the driven implement. Dangerous and damaging things can happen to either tractor or mower (and driver) if you chuck up against an unyielding object.

However, IF your mower has a spined socket (female.. which is what it sounds like you said), then you'll either have to find the approprate drive line or modify the input nosepiece on the gearbox to take a smooth-bore female driveline. But don't "hard couple" the mower to the tractor... not a good idea.

I think, from your description, it should be cheaper to change the input nosepiece than to buy a friction clutch of the size you'll need for a 6' mower. Dey ain't cheap.

Are you sayaing the hole is in the splined hub itself? If so it sure is not for a shear pin.

You can order online anything for any size PTO shaft imaginable. MOst larger tractor and imp[lemenmt dealers will have universal PTO shaft repair parts, that are easily asejmbled into all kinds of configurations, with only a few simple welds to make.

Quick comment...

If you weld up a PTO (or a drive line for a vehicle, for that matter), arrange it so that the universal joints are at a 45 degree angle from each other. It reduces the vibration/wear.

Jerry You are 100 percent wrong in that statement. The yokes on the SHAFT must be inline or they will not cancel the harmonics set up by the hooks joint. lg no neat sig line

For your purpose, I'd suggest looking on the back of a tractor.
