Aluminium brazing?

Hi,

Has anyone got an experience of this type of Aluminium brazing kit please? (eBay auction no. 7619722894)...

I have a need to join some small parts and to to fill some gaps in existing aluminium structure and was wondering how effective and easy to use this system is?

Thanks for any help.

I've used a similar kit on two occassions.

First was to an obsolete hinge bracket for a shop door. The repair was entirely sucessful cosmetically, though I was able to re-inforce the item 'out of sight' with a steel plate. (entire shop front now replaced)

Second was to the operating lever / bracket on a hand held spot welder. I had two attempts at a repair, first worked for a short while but then failed, and my second attempt resulted in melting too much of the original bracket away - possibly due to my hamfistedness.

Problem is you usually don't know the composition of the alloy that you are fixing.

This works very well:

I've been using it for years without a failure. Only problem is (with all these materials) is that due to the temperature (400 deg C or so) the adjacent aluminium softens. It can be work hardened with a bit of planishing.

For purely cosmetic filling, use ordinary, lead-free tinmans' solder and the same brushing/scraping procedure as for Lumiweld. Temperature is low enough to avoid softening.
