Ambitious project seen in Buy & Sell

This caught my eye in the Buy&Sell -

"UNFINISHED PROJECT 'Build the Titanic', large project... ring for details"

Large project - I should say..!

Steve

Apparently it includes all parts and magazines - which is strange - I didn't think it was armed.

Steve

On or around Fri, 23 Nov 2007 22:57:32 GMT, John Stevenson enlightened us thusly:

that's a trifle unfair. The watertight doors worked perfectly well, unfortunately, compromises in the original design meant that the watertight bulkheads aft of somewhere about D didn't go up to the top of the hull. Once enough for'ard compartments were flooded, the water overflowed the bulkheads in turn.

While there's no such thing as an unsinkable ship, if the Titanic had been built to the original design, it'd not have sunk.

Described as a "fist-sized hole" in an earlier BBC report, it seems strange that it sunk so quickly, even with the pumps running.

The modern replacement hasn't survived for very much longer. :-)
