Fun and games with Harrison Mill, anyone fitted a power feed?

Is this the kind of thing you could retrofit to a lathe without powered cross feed?

Not sure if it would fit on the side of a lathe saddle due to the physical size. There are units I am considering on ebay at present such as item number: 140053960084.

Robin. Why do you think you need a powered crossfeed?

All my lathes have it, BUT I can honestly say I might use it once or twice a year, and I turn many 10's of thousands of parts a year.

IMHO it's not really necessary. Were you thinking of parting off? My advice would be to manually feed, as it's better to have a bit of feel during that operation.

I wouldn't use it for parting off, but thought for facing operations it would give a better finish than I can manage by hand.

Well that takes a little practice ;) But one thing that helps is a larger handle, and preferably a fully circular one.

I dislike the ball style handles, If thats what you have then there's a little project for you! But then others may prefer it the other way around.

Is it a Myford you are using?

It's a Myford Super 7. The major problem with the cross feed is that I can't find a washer of the right thickness to put between the handle and the micrometer. I've tried using the one from the topslide, but that doesn't work either. I either get the micrometer not moving when the handle is, or the whole thing jams up...

Arc Euro do a kit of parts to improve the action of S7/ML7 cross slide leadscrews - it's very cheap, just a ball or roller thrust washer and one or two other bits, I think. It might help you (or it might still need the bit you're missing !)
