In a recent thread, Mark Rand suggested Macreadys as a possible source of steel at reasonable prices.
Thanks Mark
I followed this up with very satisfactory results. While Macreadys will only supply small section material in 3 metre lengths, their prices are typically half those of "Model Engineering" suppliers. Also, since my local depot is only 5 miles away, there are effectively no carriage costs. By splitting an order with Bob Minchin, who lives nearby, we now both have useful sizes in sensible quantities at very good prices.
I also found that Macreadys sell off-cuts. They don't have lists, but if you tell them the sizes you are looking for they will check all their depots on their computer system. Again, very reasonable prices and a wide range of material types. No charges for bringing material from another depot (or for cutting 3 metre lengths in half to make them car friendly).
The people in my local depot were very helpful and efficient. Good people to deal with.
