ER less than optimal? How many millions of ER Collets in use in manufacturing?

In terms of the diameter of the spindle armature !!!

The kress collet is around ER11 size, but uses a narrower taper, much longer body and originally supported up to 10mm shafts. All the new collet nuts are restricted to 8mm due to increasing problems with anything larger, and are double the length of the ER11 nut.

ER8 would not even take a 1/4" shaft so is not practical.
