I understand that there is a recipe, due to "Tubal Cain" that involves buying some Neatsfoot Oil (NOT Neatsfoot Oil Compound) leaving it in the sun for 5 years, siphoning off the thinner top layers, and then mixing it 4:1 with a light mineral oil, Johnssons' Baby Oil, to stabilise it. The resulting oil can then be used in clocks, etc for lubrication.
This then begs the question as to whether Johnssons' Baby Oil can be used neat ( neat but not neatsfoot!) as a light mineral oil - its other component being, apart from a slight perfume, "Isopropyl Palmate", whatever that may be?
The prospect of a lubricating oil with a pleasant scent is quite attractive!
