Turning Alluminium

Jul 06, 2003 1 Replies

Hi. Can anyone tell me the best way to turn alluminium? - Speed, tool angles, cooling media etc? Thanks in advanse. Johs. Line (Norway)

Try about 100m/minute cutting speed with good, positive top/side rake and clearance, say 10 degrees all round. Paraffin/kerosene is a good lubricant. Aluminium alloy tends to build up on the tip of HSS tools. This will ruin the surface finish and dimensions. Plenty of lubricant should stop this.

Hope this helps
