Warco

So I sent an email to Lindsey of `Warco` asking why my new 918 lathe motor was just making a buzzing noise and not turning no matter what I did. I received a prompt reply that Mr Warren thought it would be the motor start-up condenser and would be in touch soon. That very day, I got another message from Lindsey telling me that they would be sending me a brand new motor in return post. It will be on my doorstep by the Tues 5th May. It would be earlier but for the bank holiday weekend. Top that for spares and customer service. Regards.John

Sadly a common problem...I've had two motors go in my 1332 to the extent they sent me TWO new ones just in case.Warco have some excellent value equipment let down by piss poor motors.. Trust me,it's not the starter cap.....it's the windings on the way out...Have you by any chance been doing a few motor reverses lately? The start caps in those motors are terrible tiwaneese rubbish...the motors are little better...

shame really :(

Hi `D`. No I've not been doing any reverses at all, because I've only just started to use this machine which I purchased a couple of weeks ago. The reason for the delay in trying it out is that I needed some help in lathe work, and a good friend I've met on this news group`Ken Widdall`, promised to help take me through, which he did last week. He's a mine of information too. So a couple of days after Ken went home, I switched on the machine only to find this motor problem. I must admit I'm now a bit perturbed having read your experiences. I wonder if any other members have had this experience. Normally I wouldn't buy anything from the `East` but I remember reading somewhere, I think it was in `Chester's` literature, that they had moved their manufacturing operation to China and the quality of Chester's would be retained because their technology and quality control was in the hands of Chester's. So this was to be imported to China, it was only Chinese labour they used. I thought this was good business practise and would serve to help the workers in China and our savings in the UK without loss of quality. I assumed this was true of all firms that were UK based. Live and learn Huh? Regards.John

Mmm... I've bought a few things from Warco large and smal. Nice people to deal with. I'd certainly go there again.

Oh I agree, their customer service is almost god like...Roger Warren is a fantastic guy to deal with and ALWAYS has time to answer questions and help. Even though I had a few issues with motors I won't go anywhere else for machinery. I mean...32" centres,6" CH ,geared head and enough spares to fill a truck for under 1600 quid new,I just can't get that kind of value anywhere else.
