lofting

I am in the process of designing and later building a yacht. Is there a freeware or shareware CAD application which will make the lofting process easier on my few remaing brain cells. Harry

Apparently, a fair number are into building their own yaghts and doing their own fairing. Judging by this link, anyway:

One of the services I provide is to loft boats. The program I use, "Ship Constructor", costs about the same as Pro/e and interfaces with AutoCad. The Pro/e shipyard package is even more. Be careful with so called "free software" for lofting. Remember you get what you pay for,--- so if you pay nothing don't expect much more.

Yes, caveat emptor is always advised. It might be more helpful if you could steer him away from any that you know to be junk, so he doesn't waste his time on 'obvious' duds. On the other hand, for things other than CAD/modelling, I've used some pretty professional shareware programs. Recall when McAfee VirusScan was shareware? When Mosaic was freeware? Freeware or Open Source or GNU doesn't equate to junk. It equates to using a little caution combined with a lot of investigation, evaluation and discernment.
