WF3: Trouble Selecting Detail items and dimensions

Since upgrading WF3 a few weeks ago I've noticed that it can be extremely difficult to pick dimensions in assy and part mode (when double-clicking to edit a dimension value), and selecting and moving pretty much anything in detail mode. So to drag a dimension, you need to first pick it to highlight it, then pick it again to drag it. About

50% of the time, one of those picks 'misses' and you have to start over again. It doesn't seem to matter how precisely I make the pick either.

Our hardware has not changed from what we used with WF and WF2.

Anyone have the same experience, or suggestions what to do?

Maybe it should! Have you looked into this? That occurs to me when people mention a variety of screen/video/display/graphics related issues they're experiencing with a new version/build of Pro/e. Every new version has new hardware/driver requirements. Occasionally, GPU/card support is droppped. I'm not saying you have an "old" ELSA Gloria card, but if you did, it's not supported anymore. And, when PTC drops support for a card, it's definitely a problem child or worse ~ beyond repair. Here's where you can check on compatibility of your card with WF3:

We are running nVidia Quadro4 980XGLs. Not exactly today's graphics card, but it runs on the same software drivers as the newer FXs, and was certified for Wildfire. All other hardware should be irrelevant, since we're using basic Microsoft mice.

As for the upgrade route, we have new workstations on the way. But it remains utterly ridiculous that I *need* to have a tested card to work properly. Unlisted cards are simply untested cards - they all support the same OpenGL command set, and in fact run on the same drivers.

However I recall running graphics = win32gdi the other day to troubleshoot a goofy drawing, and I don't recall it solving the pick problem. In my experience, software graphics has always worked to separate graphics driver issues from Pro/E bugs.

I've set pick_aperture_radius to different values and it hasn't changed behavior.

Problem solved. It's the USB mouse - if I use a PS/2 mouse or use a PS/2 adapter on the USB mouse, the issue goes away. Credit goes to Neil Hagerty, who responded by email.

I suspect it has something to do with the increased mouse sampling rate of a USB mouse (120Hz), but I didn't bother to adjust the registry settings to confirm this.
