Howdy Folks,
Saw this commercial last night:
Anyone know anything about it? Curious if it actually exists, or was just a prop for the commercial.

Dunno, but it looks cool. It might just be a prop, as some parts of it look like standard white PVC pipe, and you can get white PVC sheets in many thicknesses.
Maybe fire off an e-mail to the "liquid_images" outfit in Santa Monica that put the commercial together. Their site it at liquidimages.tv. They may direct you to the ad agency, Young & Rubicam.

Looks like nothing but a prop to me. They show the dad picking it up to put it in the car and by the way he's moving it looks like the thing is very light - too light to have the needed motors and batteries to make something that size move on it's own. In addition, I don't see any hardware on it that looks real - it looks like nothing but plastic tubing instead of real wires etc.
I doubt they would have built a real robot for .3 seconds of time in a commercial where the thing didn't even move.
If it's a real robot they bought off the shelf, I suspect someone here will recognize it. It's not something I've ever seen before.
Looks like a prop to me too. I agree with Curt --- looks too lightweight ... but ya never really know! My bet is that this post is a ploy to get the markuswalter.com website onto this newsgroup.

Prop schmop, it looks cool! Inspiration, people!!
Yes, it likely IS a prop, seeing that it has no drive motors connected to any of the three rollers of the treads. We're not going to let that stop us, are we?

Point well taken ! One of my dreams is to make a real working Huey/Dewie/Louie from Silent Running. JCD
The "eyes" on it are quite obviously computer mics. Methinks it's a prop.

Hi Pogo and all,
Never heard of the website before scouring the net for a copy of the commercial. Couldn't find on on Land Rover's official site, so Googled and found that link.

Hi Gordon,
Exactly why I was curious. The dimensions look workable, and it's just plain neat looking.
Steve
My apologies. Sorry about that! JCD
Hey Pogo,
No sweat, I probably should have been clearer how I came across the clip in the first place.
Steve
Guess I could have been slower to jump the gun, too! :-)
Anyway, check out this video. I actually emailed 1stavemachine and they said it is 100% animation. Hard to believe there are not some puppet strings and servos involved. Most original robots I've ever seen:
