I could cert 2 and 3 but whos motors would I use? NOT Kosdon, errortech or AMW. That leaves CTI.

Bob, I don't know the answer to the question, but I know this answer.

Bob, if I was a TRA only member, can I come to NARAM and participate in everything ? the answer would be no, you can't participate in nar competition if you are not a nar member.

I have no idea what TRA ruling is on TRA competition is you are not a TRA member, but the above might be a guide.

Like at Naram, you could fly, I know that , but can you compete ?

If TRA says you can compete at LDRS as a NAR member, then as a dual member myself, I think the NAR better let TRA members compete at NAR contests if LDRS lets NAR members compete at TRA events.

My opinions only, Nomex On.

The Bowling Ball Loft is not an official TRA event, it is controlled by AHPRA.

I wrote the rules and on

it states,

"All entrants must be members in good standing of Tripoli."

Interpret this as you see fit, but is not aimed at anyone personally. And it is not going to be changed.

I'll pay for insurance if it covers me. I don't think this does.

The issue with NAR competition is that it's not just for places or trophies, but points towards a national championship. We've run local meets where we let non members compete for fun, and it essentially doubles the scoring headache. We had to calculate results for awards, then do it all over again for NAR points.

BBL et al are FUN events. I don't recall there being any restrictions on fun events held at NARAM or NSL from the sport range.

I wouldnt' expect any record I might set to become an official TRA record...

Say, where do you get cheap bowling balls?

Just call 'em up and ask if they have eight pound balls. ;)

They have them available for loan at any bowling alley. They'll never even notice the mount if you drill it into a finger hole.

Bob Frankly, I was very surprised at your post and didn't think you really meant what it seemed you said. One of the things I hate MOST about E-mail communication is the ease in which misunderstandings can start. this is a good example. At any rate......... apology accepted:-)! Now, to answer your question. As I mentioned before........NAR certainly has their hands in the cookie jar, too, whenever there is an NSL. They want 1/2 of the profits (from registration fees) from the club/s that put on a NSL. At least Tripoli charges a flat rate per attendee and the amount stays the same no matter what the launch fee is. With NAR, the amount they receive goes up the higher the fee is. Six of one......half dozen of the other, IMHO. As to your idea about the seperate launch.......We did that for years. We called it NYPOWER. The largest crowd we ever had was the same year it was the NSL. That year we had slightly over 200 flyers. Just plain NYPOWERS, the largest crowd we had was between 125 to 150. The answer is that many people will attend the one national event per year......sometimes driving over 2000 miles. No one (or at least VERY few) is/are going to drive that far for a local event......no mater how GOOD that event is. I've been to Kansas once, Orangeburg SC, twice and Muncie once. These were all national events. There's NO way I'd drive to any of those places just to fly rockets.....no matter how much I like the people there:-)! Also, I don't have much of a problem with EITHER organization collecting some money for allowing a club to host their main event. Bottem line is they can. If anyone doesn't like it, they are free to set up their own launches. LDRS (and the NSL) are THE National events. People will go to these launches when they will not travel to any others. Which would you rather go to.....a local mud track race or Daytona? A local airshow or Oshkosh? LDRS is where the biggest and best come. If you want to host LDRS.... you pay the fees. If you don't want to pay, you don't host the launch. That's just the way it is. Oh, and by the way.......We DO host both the BRS Invitational (in May) and BUFFROC (in August). Same equipment, same people, same field. We'd like either one or both to be as big as LDRS. So far, neither one comes close:-). Thanks again for clearing your comments up! Talk to you soon.

Maybe we could make it a donation to the "LDRS 23 Beers of the World Fund".

Case closed.

Which IMHO is a reason to have activities operate at a break-even. Have the participants pay for the cost of running the meet: renting the field, the porta potties, securing the equipment, etc. If the parent organization wants a cut of the profits fine, as long as they are willing to accept $5 if the net profits are $10. You shouldn't have to increase the participation fees or sock small vendors with a $200 charge to cover the tithing back to Orem. How much profit do you think someone like Peter Alway or Jack Hagerty make in a weekend of "buy this book" after they cover their travel, hotel, and food? To the small vendors, this fee says "stay away".

But TRA Kontrol hitting you with a bogus insurance surcharge that results in a $20 per person add on fee is just a big rip-off, especially since the money doesn't go to pay for any insurance. And socks people who already ahve insurance for something that doesn't even benefit them. As I said earlier, in many states that is illegal.
