You know you're at the BALLS launch when;
-Your rocket tips slightly coming off the 20 foot tall launch rail because the O motor used in the first stage booster didn't have quite enough "umph" at only 695 lbs of thrust.
-The nose cone from your ring fin Sprite sticks in the playa after separating from the BT when the shock cord breaks and two of the four shroud lines shread on your nine foot dia parachute. (actually an XPRS launch but fun to mention here)

Is this the Cold Genie hybrid rocket you are talking about or another rocket? We spent so much time on the Cold Genie launch that we missed a lot of other rocket launches.
Cold Genie ended up tilting at a 45 degree angle off the rail and basically did an imitation of a cruise missile. The rail simply wasn't stiff enough and the rail whipped under the thrust of the O motor.
Construction of a new launch system for BALLS next year has already begun. It will be strong enough to launch just about any size rocket from.

It's in reference to the CSP 8 two stage project. We have a launcher that could handle the shuttle!

Those are cool failure modes. You KNOW you are real rocketeer when that stuff happens to you!

I will be bringing the same launcher that the UK (MARS) Team and Jeff Jacobs used to BALLS next year.
The Black Brant Project on three "P" motors will use it.
What I am envisioning building probably won't be quite as strong as the RRS launch system.
I wouldn't hesitate to launch any P motor rockets off what I am planning to build.

Balls was a wonderful experience thanks very much to everyone who organised the event and everyone at the event too. I very much hope to be back again next year with the m.a.r.s crew.
