CNN short item on Team America rocket flyoff

While the rockets may have been good sized rockets, the motors of choice were Estes engines. Typical first stage motors were 2 or 3 D12s with an D12 for the second stage or and E9. There were small numbers that used an F50 of even a G80 but these were the exception.

It was a great event with many enthuastic middle and high schoolers. The winning team hit the taget altitude of 1250' exactly with the second place team only 5' off.

Penn Manor High Team 2 from Millersville PA, one of 3 teams from that district. The middle school team finished 7th, and the high school team one had a great flight that would have placed but they broke an egg (they think when they installed it, not in flight) All three of these teams were mentored by Chris and Anne Land who devoted a lot of time and money to the project.
