Fiberglassing tubes?

Need help on some info about glasing a tube. I have to work on a very tight budget and can get polyester resin for about 8.00 a quart but epoxy resin costs around 37.00 a quart. So I have to go with the polyester. My question is after the polyester has cured if i use epoxy for the fillets will it effect the polyester? any in put can only help. thanks

As long as you sand the polyester resin down a bit*, it should be fine.

  • can't remember if it's the release agent used with polyester resin or the resin itself that leaves a slightly waxy residue which epoxy doesn't like. My money's on the release agent though.

Epoxy lamenating resin doesn't have to cost 37$ a QT. Try this link

to bottom.

The can of poly I have says on it to not put epoxy over it. Also poly has a shelf life. It is very stinky so only use it outside or with a vacuum bag.

It comes in two types. One is a laminating type that does not have the waxy coating for doing multiple layers. I suppose the type you are looking at will have a waxy coating that would need sanding.

You could try letting it dry at least a week before using epoxy to bond to it.
