Cubbies

Did anyone see the guy who caught the ball and "interfered" with the player (alou) who was trying to catch it? IMHO - I think that the guy was fine in what he did, most other people would have done the same, and others were trying to. I can't believe that people are trying to blame the loss on him... Look what our society has come to!

I blame it on Baker. While many of us may have tried to catch it, some would have the situational awareness not to.

Regardless, after the resulting brouhaha, Baker should have called timeout, and talked to his players, reminding them that "champions deal with adversity, so suck it up and play ball."

I'd like to see the Cubs win. It'd be neat. OTOH, I'd like to see Pudge get in the show, too.

That "missed" out didn't put 8 runs (IIRC) on the board for FL. Nor did Denkinger's call in 85 or Buckner's boot in 88 (?). Players can't come unglued just because of a bad break. Sammy shoulda' hit the cutoff man, right?

And Gonzo shouldn't have booted a ball that even I would have fielded cleanly right after that incident. BTW, I agree with you completely!

I'm a Cardinals fan at heart, but I'm rooting for the Cubbies all the way!

Yeah, the reaction to this by both fans and the media here is despicable.

I'm a White Sox fan, but I was kinda hoping the Cuds would make the world series just so I could see one Chicago team there in my lifetime.

But after this, I'm going back to the hard line:

I'm a fan of the White Sox - and whoever is playing the Cubs.

This is the best 'description' I've found of the 'curse':

I understand they (CUBS) are operating under a "billy goat" curse.

someone in the 40s said "I put a pox on you Cubs" cause he could not bring his billy goat to the park with him the gate keeper said ?

In this legalize society of ours no one is responsible for his own actions, it's the 'other guys' fault. How can he possibly be deemed responsible for making a mess of the game? But it is amazing how one stupid, little act affected a game, a series and a city.

I can see it now, the Cubbies filing a lawsuit against the guy. :-)

If the Cubs, Cubs fans and Cubs media hang their hat and season on "fan interference", that speaks volumes about their charactor.

I am just glad the universe did not implode yesterday, caused by a Cubs win.

I missed most of this thread. Did anyone post odds related to which will occur first: USR motors becoming NAR certified again or the Cubs winning the World Series again?

With all due respect nobody believes I am more blackballed than me, but the Cubbies have had the honor since 1908 and this week's events shows why. I am betting on USR motors being certified first, although not necessarily during my lifetime :)

At least the Cubs have a scape goat, so that they don't have to admit that the Marlins were just better.

Two scapegoats:

  1. The curse.
  2. The earthly version of the curse in that guy who iterferred. a. It must be considered that statistically the fielder might have missed too.

I am just more glad the universe didn't implode. That's all I care about!

Now you're getting into the realm of "infinite improbability".
