Year that I could easily find numbers for on the web was 2001:

9.4 billion in sales: video games 8.4 billion in sales: movies 13.6 billion total NASA budget

We simply have to ask ourselves what's more important.

Be careful. They might take your mojo away.

Personally, I think they should take half the money that goes to all politicians and put it in the NASA budget. That way we'd get something more than just hot air.

Then of course, if the politicians were paid what they're really worth, they'd only get half of nothing.

I think that taxpayers should get to decide where every one of their tax dollars goes. I'd be that would really shake up government spending, and government waste.

I just think it's staggeringly amazing that this nation can mobilize hundreds of thousands of troops, spending tens of billions of dollars, in just a few months to defeat and occupy a country halfway around the world. (Not saying it's good, bad, or indifferent - just that it IS a staggeringly huge demonstration of capability).

With that sort of focus, determination and committment, imagine how fast we could establish a science research station on the moon and Mars. Imagine what a TRILLION dollars over ten years - less than a third of our current defense budget - less than a FIFTH of Social Security's costs - could do!!!

That's the most encouraging thing anyone has said lately.

People could care less! That means that they care some!

Now, if you'd pointed out that they couldn't care less, now that would have been really freaking depressing.

Sounds good to me. How do we pull it off?

Born in '56, growing up in the 60's and with a father that worked for NASA for several years, I'm very disappointed we weren't there long ago. We could have been. I could tell you why we aren't there yet, but it would start an OT firestorm and ensuing "rmr black hole" ...... and I've been trying to avoid those lately. ; )

Randy

P.S. And it has nothing to do with the fire at Jerry's place either. ; )

Well, that's the way Tom Lehrer relates it anyway. Or were you refering to some other quote? ;-)

Well, there have been some "black" programs with hidden exenditures that was money well spent. Of course there were also expensive black programs that failed, like the Glomar Explorer, which was a cover story for recovering a sunken Soviet submarine. I've been tying to make sence out of new Bush space program. The only thing that makes sence is that it must be a cover story for an expensive black program.

Correct source, wrong line.

The line I'm hinting at would explain exactly WHY we are going back to the moon and beyond.

Was Glomar a failure? Maybe that's what "they" want us to believe.!
