The next step

After checking out MDRocketry's website, I've decided its a viable group to fly with! So next on the line is getting some more kits - Estes stuff I have in storage, but also looking to add some bigger birds to the fleet.

As far as an L1 poss. L2 cert, do you guys have any feelings on the BSD Horizon 4" ? I saw this a while back when browsing through a rocketry publication - looks like a good quality kit, but not having built one myself, I'd like to know a little more before plonking down the cash.

Also, any other suggestions for HPR kits?

Thanks!

I've heard good things about the Maryland folks. I haven't flown there myself.

My cert 2 kit was the BSD Horizon 4". I think it is a good choice but you might want to built it dual-deploy from the start.

Before buying/building you should go to one of the launches and talk with the certification team you'll be using and get their recommendations.

I was strongly advised to go with dual-deploy because the Horizon is light and the East Coast fields are somewhat small. I had already built my Horizon for motor ejection at apogee and ended up retrofitting dual-deploy with the Defy Gravity Tether. That works but you have to be really careful about rigging it to avoid fouling the chute.

I certed with a J350 at Whitakers and the RRC2 reported 4068'. My implementation weighs about 50 oz, dry.

I did a cert 1 with an Art Applewhite fly> After checking out MDRocketry's website, I've decided its a viable

I've heard some good things about the group from folks who've visited them.

BSD makes nice kits; the 4" Horizon is an easy build.

LOC and PML both make some nice kits that would be a good starting point. On the PML kits I would request phenolic instead of Quantum Tube (may cost a little more), as I'm not a fan of Quantum. I know others who love the stuff, though.

You can't go wrong with a BSD kit. The 4" Horizon or THOR would make great certification rockets.

MDRA's next launch is scheduled for, 2 and 3 March 2005 and then a three day launch scheduled for 22, 23, 24 April 2005. Come on out and enjoy the fun. Performance Hobbies is the on site vender at most launches,

and usually has a good assortment of kits and motors. Additionally, membership information, hotel, and driving directions are posted on the web page,

March 19th and 20th at coverdale cancelled or are you just not going to be at that one fred?

Bob, Jerr - Thanks for the laughs. It has been my strongest belief that time travel can be viewed as funny, and you have just provided a proof to the theorem.

Glad to help :)

Ignored several BS posts from Stein too. :)

"I've replied back to some of Jerry's posts in a bit of anger but this time I think it's funny...someone has to step up and take the lead so to speak. And if you just get past Jerry's political crap thrown into most of his posts he usually does have some very good input that can be backed up and is quite reliable. All hail Jerry!....or not...."

I see JI has a sense of humor; I guess that's an improvement. It sure seems quite with him in the kill file.
