A-10 thunderbolt yellow primer

Hello,

I'm building an 1/72nd OOB Academy A-10 Thunderbolt II. I would like to paint this model in yellow primer just like those seen in one of the first pictures in the Color & Markings book on the A-10. But what colour combination would work for the primer paint?

I would like to know if the weapon pylons on the A-10 are permanently fixed. I would like to do an model with a clean wing, so would these pylons be fixed from the production line on?

For an next model (way in the future) I would like to model one with a partial primer colour job (maybe one wing or so). Do you know a link to such a picture (I usually use Google but haven't found one yet).

Greetings,

FilipFr

Hello

Zinc Chromate.

Get the small Testors bottle of it, it is almost an exact match IMHO.

Hello, There's a shop not so far from my place that sells the Testor paint range so I will try to find that bottle. Thank you for the tip.

F,

I know the jet very well. All pylons are removeable so, yes, you could build it "clean." Generally, to keep balance they are removed in pairs: one pylon and its corresponding pylon on the opposite wing. Centerline pylon can be removed by itself. When pylons are removed, the bomb-rack cabling and fuel lines are pushed up inside the wing and small panels are secured over the openings. These are near the rear of the pylons. For weathering, these small panels and the area where the pylon was are generally way cleaner than the surrounding area. Also, there will be four bolts protruding about an inch where the pylon was, two on either side of the center of the pylon about 8 inches apart. The bolts hold the pylons to the wing. That's about it. Hope this helps.
