Airfix type motorbike models

Jun 16, 2005 6 Replies

My 7 year old son loves the Airfix type of model. He has asked several times if I can get him a model motorbike (since he also loves motorbikes). Do Airfix - or any similar companies - make model motorbikes? If so, where can I buy them? (I live in the UK)

Thanks, KF.

There should be plenty of motorbike kits available in your local model shops. There are a couple from Airfix but the vast majority are from Italeri and Tamiya. You can have a look at the sort of thing that is available (as well as buy online) at

Simply choose "Motorbike kits" in the "Item Type" drop down list.

Whether these kits are suitable for a 7 year old on his own is debatable, but I'm sure they are eminently suitable for a father/son collaborative venture!

i belive Airfix have dropped them, my local model shop has them, check the website or call them. postage is cost and not a minimum or way over priced del charge.

Revell also *had* quite a few kits. I am unsure if any are still in production, or available. If they are, I think they might be a little better for the young modeler; as they seemed to be geared more toward a younger age group.

i forgot to mention that i noticed a new brand of kit bikes in my local model shop, i think maybe there are part die cast, as they were in the dicast section but it said kits.

If I was going to let a 7 year old loose on an Airfix motorcycle kit, I'd go for the Ariel Arrow. It's simple and robust. The weakest part is the handlebars.
